Mother charged with DUI for single-vehicle wreck

Police in Oklahoma recently arrested a woman who they say was under the influence of alcohol when she lost control of her vehicle. Her child was apparently in the vehicle at the time. She is facing multiple criminal charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment by DUI. She is currently out of police custody on $3,000 bond.

On April 30, 2019, somebody contacted police about a single-vehicle crash in which the driver had ended up in a ditch. The individual told police that they spotted a woman fleeing the scene while holding a child. According to that witness, the woman appeared to be intoxicated and was having trouble staying upright.

Once police arrived on the scene they were told that the woman had first gone to a liquor store before walking to a nearby Dollar General. When police located the woman inside the store she was reportedly only wearing one shoe and had a cut underneath one of her eyes. The woman admitted that it was her vehicle in the ditch, but claimed that she had slid off the road because her wheels were not very good. She also said she must have accidentally left her other shoe behind when she left the vehicle to come purchase cigarettes.

At the time her speech was reportedly thick and her eyes appeared bloodshot. When questioned about whether she had had anything to drink she initially said no, then eventually said she had a single shot of vodka earlier in the day. She also denied having her child in the vehicle with her, saying that the child was with her friend who was working at the nearby liquor store. She later said her child had been in the vehicle. Police ultimately arrested the woman, and a subsequent Breathalyzer test recorded her blood-alcohol content at .18.

When facing DUI charges as seriously as these, it is usually a good idea to be as prepared as possible. Many defendants in Oklahoma end up losing their licenses, and depending on the charge those found guilty could spend months or even years behind bars. This is why it is usually a good idea for people to begin considering their different defense options in as timely a manner as possible.
